Meet The Preparers

cbswebChuck Sloan, EA

Over the last twenty-five plus years  Chuck has cultivated an understanding of  taxes in order to take greater control of his income and expenses as an actor.  He saw some companies withholding more in taxes on residuals than others, while some deductions were being denied because of how he got paid (W-2 versus 1099).  So as a "necessary hobby" Chuck started developing a background of tax knowledge, eventually becoming a licensed preparer and has since helped thousands of actors save money on their taxes over the years.  Now, with almost two decades of experience as a licensed preparer, he has become recognized as one of the leading authorities on taxes for performers. He was the Chairman of the S.A.G.- AFTRA- EQUITY VITA Program (Volunteers for Income Tax Assistance) for many tax seasons as well as participating with the program for over ten years. For seven years Chuck was a facilitator for the Screen Actors Guild Foundation Tax Seminars as part of its "LifeRaft Series" for union members and wrote the actors tax column for "Backstage" magazine for five years.  Chuck also served on the S.A.G. Board for four years and was a member of the S.A.G. Finance Committee for three years.

tlpTricia Lee Pascoe, EA

Tricia Lee has been working with us for over twenty years.  Schooled back east…as far east as Oxford, England... Tricia Lee has compiled (in addition to her all important tax preparer expertise) a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography, a Masters of Arts in Communications, a Broadcast Journalism Certificate, and is licensed as a Vocational Art teacher in California. She completed her BFA and MA at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, graduating Magna Cum Laude; was a member of the Alpha Chi honors fraternity and completed 8 consecutive semesters as a patron of the Dean’s list. Most recently she passed her Enrolled Agent exams which allows her the right of practicing before the Internal Revenue Service.

joeJoe Howard

Joe has been acting professionally since 1971 and preparing actors tax returns since 1973. He continues to work in feature films, primetime TV, and television commercials, and has worked on Broadway, as well.  After teaching in the S.A.G.-AFTRA-Equity VITA program for several years, he joined Chuck Sloan and Associates in 2000.  He comes from a family of lawyers, and to the advantage of his clients, he thinks like one. Joe is particularly proud of the caliber of service we provide for our clients at such low prices and really enjoys working with fellow performers and industry people.

lamontLamont Dixon

Lamont is originally from Brooklyn, NY where he worked on Wall Street for five years before coming to Los Angeles.  For 10 years Lamont worked as a volunteer with the V.I.T.A. program at the Screen Actors Guild during the tax season. He was one of the program’s favorite instructors. He also has his realtor’s license and is a successful real estate agent as well as a flight attendant traveling the world. He has been with us for awhile now and we are proud to have him.

martaMarta Sullivan, CPA

Marta’s career in accounting within talent and advertising agencies and motion picture studios has allowed her to blend her love for entertainment with her talent for all facets of accounting. Since joining Sloan & Associates her focus has been on tax compliance. She is serious about maximizing her clients’ knowledge of how a tax return works, and each year the process becomes easier and more fruitful for them. She earned a Bachelors degree in Radio-Television-Film from the University of Texas and a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Houston. She opened the doors to her own accounting practice in 2013 and is helping small business clients with bookkeeping and a full array of business consulting. This will be her eighth year with us and she adores working with her clients and the amazing associates Chuck has gathered together. You can go to her website at www.msullivancpa.com.

ronRonnie Steadman, EA

Ronnie hails from the South, where he learned down home values, not the least of which was "a penny saved is a penny earned." Now he knows that "a penny itemized is a penny returned."  He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN. Though his studies were focused in math, ironically he turned his sights toward acting and has enjoyed a fruitful career with numerous roles in independent films, national commercials, television, and on the stage. As a result, he understands the entertainer’s challenges on a tax return. Originally impressed with the years of service he personally received at Chuck Sloan and Associates, Ronnie was thrilled to become a part of the team years ago and be a provider of that great service to other folks.  An avid puzzle-solver, Ronnie enjoys a challenge. He is incredibly thorough and will treat your return as if it were his own. (Which, trust us, means it will be done right, because he don’t mess around when it comes to his wallet.)

stephStephanie Griffin, EA

Originally from the great state of Virginia, Stephanie moved to California over 25 years ago to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Although primarily an actress working in film and television, Stephanie found herself in a wide array of jobs in the industry including business affairs, production accounting, casting, and producing corporate films. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from James Madison University in Virginia with an Honors degree in Theatre and English. After discovering a passion for all things tax in 2007, Stephanie decided to return to school and enroll in an accounting program at UCLA. Now entering her eleventh season of tax preparation, she is proud to say she completed her studies in December 2010 with a 4.0 GPA, has passed all four CPA exams (on the first attempt!), and has become an Enrolled Agent, which means she has earned (by way of passing three rigorous tax exams) the right of practicing before the Internal Revenue Service. In addition to tax preparation, Stephanie provides accounting services for a select clientele, and manages to keep house and home together for her husband and three daughters. She is thrilled to be returning for another fantastic season at Chuck Sloan and Associates, where she is sure to put her skills with numbers, people, organization and motherly instincts to good use.

michaelMichael Campbell

Mike comes to us with several years of experience as a tax professional specializing in the entertainment industry.  Although he first met Chuck as a result of the union VITA program many years ago, his schedule as an actor kept him from volunteering as an instructor. Obviously Mike’s interest in tax preparation never abated and is a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals.  A professional actor since 1989 and a member of SAG, AFTRA, and Equity, Mike has performed on stages from coast to coast and on television and film in almost every genre. He has his own production company which has garnered attention from festivals and Universal Studios COO Ron Meyer. Mike also has an associate’s degree in accounting from Barnes Business College and worked in the accounting field prior to his decision to move to Los Angeles to pursue a fulltime acting career.  Mike's background and training provides an experienced and knowledgeable addition to our continuing team of preparers.

jordanaJordana Capra

Jordana first hit the boards in New York at the age of 6 and continued her musical theatre training in Minneapolis, ultimately completing her studies at the University of Minnesota.  Since moving to Los Angeles, she has worked with Peter Gallagher in "Watch It!" and Jose Ferrer and Oliver Reed in "Hired To Kill".  Her very first film work was in the cult classic, “Amazon Women On The Moon”... yes, she's an Amazon Woman.  A few of her TV appearances include  “ER”, "Strong Medicine", "Saved By The Bell", "Murder One", "Beverly Hills 90210", “Desperate Housewives”, 1 1/2 years on "Bold and the Beautiful", “House, M.D.” and the Bravo improv series "Significant Others".  She’s had an equally successful commercial career.  You may have already met her while she was working in commercial casting as a session director for over 15 years, and as a commercial acting teacher at the Strasburg Institute. She is starting her 8th season here at Chuck Sloan & Associates.

lindsayLindsay Thompson, EA

A graduate of Smith College in Massachusetts, Lindsay eventually wound her way to Los Angeles to pursue a glamorous career in the performing arts.  Like most actors Lindsay has abused her degree in Government in the many non-performing jobs along the way, most notably several years working in Human Resources for business firms where she discovered a love of details, minutiae and other redundancies.  As an actress she comes to us with such varied work as the TV series “Free Radio” and the mega hit film “Spiderman.”  Despite her good posture and porcelain skin she is thrilled to be working at Chuck Sloan and Associates. We think you will appreciate her kind and gentle, yet professional manner.

briceBrice Williams, EA

Raised in Post Falls, Idaho, Brice received a congressional appointment to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.  He later earned a NASA sponsored scholarship towards a Master’s Degree at George Washington University and, while studying, worked at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.  The next five years were spent at Los Angeles Air Force Base where he served as a mission manager for the Delta II Rocket yet he still somehow found time to participate as a volunteer as a VITA Tax Preparer.  Seven GPS satellite launches and countless tax returns later, he honorably separated from the Air Force as a Captain.  His passion for the arts lead him to pursue an acting career.  With success equal to his previous high flying career Brice has appeared in network television, numerous independent films and national commercials. With the worldwide release of the independent feature 'All Alone', he has also established himself as a film producer.  VITA fostered his desire to assist others with their taxes which brings him to Chuck Sloan & Associates.  Preparing taxes might not be rocket science, but with Brice you have a real rocket scientist just in case.

daffyDaphne McVay

Born in Oklahoma City, OK, the baby of six kids, Daphne McVay has been an entertainer from an early age. After high school, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue this acting thing and graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA with a BA in Theatre Arts. She has been blessed to work in numerous commercials, loads of theatre, films and TV shows, most recently “Nashville” on ABC and more notably, 4 years on “Days of Our Lives.”  A lover of math, problem solving and saving money, Daphne always enjoyed the process of organizing for her own tax preparation. After several years as a client of Sloan and Associates, Chuck encouraged her to go to school, get her tax license and consider joining his team. When she’s not working, Daphne enjoys spending time with her hubby and two kids, connecting with friends, cooking and couponing. Forever a frugalista, she doesn’t believe in paying full price for anything. Let her love of saving help you in your taxes.

Ryan Ryan Shaughnessy

Growing up in a small cornfield about an hour south of Chicago, Ryan was “the nerd who played sports”. However, when he was twelve, he found his love of entertaining people from his part in the town production of “Annie”. Since he was unaware of how to make entertaining a career in the rural heart of America, he decided to take the business route. After graduating as valedictorian from his high school class, he attended Northern Illinois University and received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in accounting from that institution. After traveling to Europe, passing the CPA exam at age 24, and obtaining a spot in a top ten public accounting firm, Ryan was offered an opportunity to transfer to Los Angeles. Ryan is a big believer in signs, and he took this as one. Now settled in Los Angeles, Ryan has been in numerous television and internet spots. One of Ryan's largest successes to date was a comedic video entitled "Girls are Assholes: At a Bar". The video went viral on YouTube in less than 48 hours and was number one on Reddit for 27 hours. Lastly, Ryan feels fortunate to have the opportunity to make magic at the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland. He has portrayed Captain America, Captain Jack Sparrow, and Kristoff, from the movie Frozen.

Melissa Graver

Melissa is originally from New York where she worked in Real Estate and Market Research after graduating from the University of New Hampshire where she studied Psychology and Theater. That said, acting was always the goal. While in New York, she completed a two-year Meisner training program at The William Esper Studio, got into the union and booked her first role in the indie feature, The Winning Season with her fellow Esper pupil, Sam Rockwell. Not wanting to live in the same place her entire life, Melissa decided to move to LA to continue pursuing her dreams. She has booked national commercials, TV and film rolls, and done some stage work. Most recently Melissa is starring in a comedy series she co-created and co-wrote called, The Pet Peeve Police. Math and numbers have always been of interest to Melissa. So naturally she took interest in taxes. Plus, she gets to work in an environment with other industry professionals. It's a win win!

The "EA" designation after a preparer's name above stands for "Enrolled Agent."

An enrolled agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service. Enrolled agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), are generally unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can represent clients before.

And in NEW YORK!

domDominic Comperatore

Dominic hails from southern New Jersey.  He comes from a family of doctors, and earned his degree in International Studies from the University of Scranton and the Ludwig Maximilians University in  Germany.  He speaks fluent German  and can get by in Italian, too.  A professional actor since 1993, he’s tread the boards from Broadway all the  way to Los Angeles, appeared in numerous television shows, commercials and  films.  He understands the needs of  performers who come to Chuck Sloan & Associates.  In fact, he started out as a client.  “This was the first place I came where they really grasped what I did for a living.” As a preparer, he enjoys not just knowing how to customize his fellow actors’ returns, but being to explain it to them, as well.  “My goal is that when my clients walk  out the door,  they not only know they’ve gotten a good return, but why.”
